Advantagecom Networks, Inc. was founded in December 1995 under the name Advantage Communication Enterprises. The founders believed that any individual could successfully run a business on the Internet if firm integrity, perseverance, and a hefty dose of common sense were applied to a viable business model. At the time, the idea that you could run a business solely on the Internet was revolutionary.

After 2 years of selling various products and services over the Internet, marketing methods were refined, procedures were developed, policies were implemented, and business management skills were honed. The company began to show a profit.

The founders of Advantagecom came to realize that one major stumbling block in the way of Internet business success was finding a good web hosting service.

Many web hosting companies were experiencing reliability, performance, and technical support difficulties. Some web hosting companies were making outrageous promises that they had no intention of keeping.

The founders of Advantagecom decided they were going to fill the need for reliable web hosting services that were reasonably priced and sold with integrity and ethics. Several web hosting accounts were sold and customer feedback was favorable.

Advantagecom launched web hosting service and dedicated server services based on the Cobalt RaQ line of servers. As one of the first hosting companies to offer an easy to use web based control panel instead of emailing requests to technicians or inscrutable command line configuration, the uptake rate of these services was exceptionally high and they were well received by customers.

Advantage Communication Enterprises incorporated as Advantagecom Networks, Inc.

Advantagecom launched a line of services called the Universal Pipe or Upipe hosting accounts. An industry first, these hosting plans included unlimited domains and unlimited web space. Wildly popular, within 6 months, every major hosting provider was either crying foul or offering something similar.

Advantagecom began offering virtual private servers (VPS/VDS) based on the best technology of that time. Again, as one of the first hosting providers to offer an easy to use web based control panel with their VPS services, they were sought out by customers globally.

Advantagecom deployed its first Xen virtualization system with basic clustering and failover. While customers of other companies struggled with performance issues from shared node resources, Advantagecom's customers enjoyed excellent performance segregation in every VPS due to an expertly engineered platform taken to the next level, beyond what other providers offered in their virtualization platforms.

Advantagecom automated service provisioning for a Xen based virtualization system to tie it into a hosting platform agnostic web based billing platform. This eliminated vendor lock-in by hosting software providers, further accelerated service provisioning, and drove cost savings that Advantagecom passed on to customers.

Advantagecom engineered and deployed a dedicated multi-node private cloud system to support the web and database backend of an iPhone app for a client. Featuring extreme resiliency through a self-healing architecture, it provided for uptime throughout any type of maintenance event, whether it was software or hardware. A web based interface provided transparent management of all VMs in the system and resource usage monitoring. Additional VMs could be provisioned as needed with the underlying hardware nearly invisible to the VM provisioner. To the VM provisioner, the cluster appeared as one homogeneous pool of resources that could be expanded on the fly by adding more nodes.

Advantagecom engineered and deployed a XenServer cluster with diskless nodes, automated provisioning, zero downtime VM migration between nodes, automated node failover, nearly unlimited scalability, and high performance ultra-reliable high capacity shared storage. While XenServer clusters were nothing new at this point, the storage system was truly innovative for its time. The storage utilized in this system was engineered to provide ultra high performance, extreme reliability, high capacity, and low cost simultaneously, a huge leap forward over previous storage systems that were limited to providing only one or two of those attributes at one time.

Advantagecom continues to innovate and build on its strengths and ethical business practices. Advantagecom has demonstrated the ability to innovate and adapt as the market and technologies have changed over the course of multiple decades.
